The Recruitment Process

What happens after you have applied for a job with the London Borough of Sutton.

Shortlisting stage

Once an advert has closed, all application forms received will go through the shortlsiting process. The information you provided in your Statement of Suitability will be assessed against the relevant items on the Person Specification for the post. The candidate(s) with the highest scores will be invited for interview. At least two members of the interview panel will be involved in creating the shortlist.

Due to the high cost of postage, we are unable to acknowledge unsuccessful applications. If you do not hear from us within four weeks of the closing date, please assume you have not been shortlisted.

Interview stage

Candidates who are selected for interview will be contacted and invited to attend an interview. They will receive further information including when and where the interview will take place and any assessment methods that may be used.

Offer stage

After interviews have taken place the successful candidate will first be offered the post verbally and that will then be confirmed in writing. This initial offer will be subject to clearances including references and medical clearance. The other candidates will be informed of the outcome of their interview.

Complaints

The Council wants to ensure quality of opportunity in its recruitment and selection. If you think that you have been discriminated against during the selection process because of your race, gender, caring responsibilities, disability, gender re-assignment, age, social class, sexual orientation and religion or belief you may complain and we will look into your complaint.

Complaints must be made within 72 hours of being informed of the decision to reject.

A personnel officer who has not been involved in the recruitment process will investigate the complaint.
